Chapter 634 The Hidden Mole, the Concealed Traitor
Chapter 634 The Hidden Mole, the Concealed Traitor
The timeline of "Midnight".
The battle between Parallax Morhal and the five-dimensional being Emperor Joker has spread throughout the entire universe.
Among the superheroes present, some of the stronger ones rushed forward to help Hal, while others, the weaker ones, hid to avoid being caught in the aftermath of the battle.
But among those weak people who all hid away, there was a strange outcast.
His name is Mocun.
Mo Cun, a supervillain. During the Zero Hour arc, Parallax Morhal created a crisis that nearly rebooted the entire DC universe, but in the early stages of the events, he was always hiding behind Mo Cun, silently manipulating his actions.
Mo Cun claimed to be Hal's ally, but in reality, he was nothing more than Hal's puppet and subordinate.
Even so, the relationship between Mocun and Hal cannot be simply categorized as superior and subordinate. For Mocun, whether Parallax Demon Hal wins or loses, it is not worth risking everything for him.
Therefore, it's only natural that in such an intense confrontation, he would want to find a secluded corner to hide and preserve his strength. Morally, there's nothing wrong with that, but…
"He's gone mad, Hal is a mad dog."
Mo Cun wiped away non-existent sweat and hid in a small alternate dimension he had created himself.
The flow of time here is different from that of the outside world. Rather than simply a hiding place, it is more like an accelerated shuttle that jumps faster into the future on the timeline.
Mo Cun is also a villain who wields the power of time, and he can do these things very easily.
But just as he was about to fully activate and seal this alternate dimension, he suddenly noticed a blue face appearing abruptly at the edge of the white space.
A tall, muscular man wielding a massive, reverse-pointed iron hammer suddenly invaded his space. Within his privately constructed space, Mo Cun immediately sensed the danger and launched an attack.
In an instant, he aged the burly man in front of him by several hundred years. Under normal circumstances, this burly man should have immediately turned from a young man into an old man, the kind of old man who could not even walk.
But the burly man only stiffened slightly, then trembled, and then acted as if nothing had happened, raising the hammer and bringing it down on Mo Cun.
Mo Cun frantically shook his body, trying to escape the hammer's attack, but the hammer, though seemingly slow, seemed to completely envelop him. After struggling with all his might to no avail, Mo Cun finally realized what he was facing.
He could only watch helplessly as the heavy iron hammer wielded by the tall, muscular blue man grew larger and larger in his world.
Before being completely struck by the hammer, Mo Cun opened his mouth and asked the question he most wanted to ask at that moment.
"Who are you?"
But he didn't get a chance to hear a reply. The overwhelming hammers, like the sky itself, came crashing down, like a fist forcefully smashing ketchup.
Unable to dodge or escape, Mo Cun could only let out a desperate roar:
"Aa ...
puff!
With a soft thud, Mo Cun's head was smashed into his shoulder by the iron hammer, forming a perfect "义" (righteousness) shape. His body fell to the ground with a thud, and in his still slightly conscious mind, he heard the blue giant's last words.
"I am the World Forger. I'm sorry..."
"I'll borrow your identity for a moment."
……
……
……
I am Reverse-Flash Al Bernardswan, people used to call me Reverse-Flash, but not anymore, never again. I am the Flash of my universe, the savior of the world.
While Batman, the Bat Mite, the Bat Who Laughs, and that Merciless Iron Fist who wreaked havoc in my universe were endlessly battling in a space forged by fifth-dimensional divine power, I was running.
I ran through jungles, over hills, and over every place where the dawn of human civilization once shone.
I am saving one person after another on the eve of the end of the world.
I routed the fleeing Amazons and the Atlanteans in pursuit of them in the war zone. Upon learning of the fall of Paradise Island to the merciless iron fist, the Amazons began a full-scale retreat.
I saved countless civilians in the middle of the battlefield.
I gathered the civilians onto an abandoned train, then used the Speed Force to envelop the train in the center of the war zone, and pulled it back to downtown New York City.
But I know it's all meaningless. I can use the Speed Force to save lives at speeds unimaginable to humans, but no matter how fast I run, I can't catch up with the pace of the world's destruction.
I knew perfectly well that it was pointless for me to save these civilians in front of me, and I stood in the center of the crowd, receiving everyone's gratitude.
I reassured them, telling them everything would be alright, repeating lies that I myself didn't believe.
Okay, I guess this isn't exactly a lie. They really will be fine; they will be resurrected after time restarts following their death.
I was treated like a hero...
No, I am the hero. Okay, even after all this time, I still can't forget those days when I was the villain. I always subconsciously think of myself as a villain who is taking the place of a hero.
But it is not important.
I've been treated like this hundreds and thousands of times; I'm forever stuck in Groundhog Day, unable to move forward.
After several cycles of reincarnation, I gradually realized that my universe is incomplete, that my universe was born with a defect, and that this painful cycle of reincarnation will never end.
If I truly want to turn the tide and avert disaster, I'm afraid I'll have to find another way.
To end this forced cycle, I sought refuge with Parallax Morhal.
A demon king from the upper reaches of the super-time stream, he is a master of manipulating time and the most powerful time traveler I have ever seen.
He depicted to me a blueprint for a perfect world, where as long as he altered history upstream in the hyperchronic flow, my universe would no longer be incomplete at its inception.
I no longer need to restart the universe again and again to avoid a future of destruction.
Of course, he told me that the Flash would also be reborn, but he promised me that even if he resurrected the Flash in my universe, Barry Allen would only have a father and mother, and live a mediocre life with his happy family. Only I, Reverse-Flash, would remain the Flash, revered by all. That's fine.
When that day comes, I will make Barry Allen the curator of my museum, responsible for proclaiming my greatness to everyone.
Hehehehe...
Everything is perfect, at least in the depiction. But there's one thing that worries me.
I will never forget the answer I received when I asked Parallax Mohal if he could save my universe from destruction in the present timeline.
“There’s absolutely no need,” Parallax Morhal said. “Once I restart the entire hypertimeline, all history since the arrival of zero will be reset. At that time, all pain and sorrow will cease to exist, and everyone can experience their perfect lives in the perfect reality I create.”
Reverse Flash involuntarily shrugged his shoulders.
A violent explosion rang out, and the Atlantean soldier whose ankle he had grabbed detonated the bomb on his body without hesitation, trying to take him down with him, but the bomb only turned him into a bloody firework.
His death was meaningless, even comical.
"Everything you're experiencing right now is fake, do you understand? A fake world, a flawed world. As long as I restart the timeline, everyone we killed will be resurrected. Even the villains will get a perfect childhood to ensure they never go down the path of crime again."
Reverse-Flash Elberd thought.
"A perfect childhood"—what does that mean? He couldn't imagine it.
People cannot imagine things they have never experienced.
"So what should I do with my world?"
Reverse-Flash then asked Parallax Morhal.
What the other person said confused him and made him panic.
"Your world can just be destroyed, anyway I can be resurrected."
He remembered Parallax Mohal saying to him:
"What, are you a little scared? Seriously, Swann, you're someone who travels through time frequently—have you really never seen a mortal weep for their family, even after you explicitly told them that their family would be resurrected after the universe was rebooted?"
"Time travelers have a different perspective than ordinary people. As a time traveler myself, I originally thought you would be able to understand the connection."
Yes, reverse lightning is possible. So he gave up and stopped questioning it.
Reverse-Flash accepted the theories of Parallax Demon Hal. He then devoted himself wholeheartedly to serving him in exchange for the blessings he and his universe could enjoy in the new world Hal created.
But according to Hal's theory, it would be meaningless for him to save people now, yet the reverse lightning continues to save them.
He was just relaxing, pretending to be busy, and reducing his thinking time in order to reduce some emotions that he couldn't explain.
But suddenly, Reverse Lightning stopped.
Because he found that the battlefield he was on was quiet, without a sound.
The Speed Force allows him to distort most of the laws of physics while running, so even when running at near the speed of light, he can still hear or make sounds, and even speak clearly.
Therefore, it's impossible that he couldn't hear the sounds of the battlefield. The current silence can only mean one thing:
Someone tried to harm him.
"Get out here," Reverse-Flash said.
He was already starting to wonder who it was.
Is it the Batman Who Laughs, or one of his other henchmen? Based on the basic information Batman provided—are those other Bruces called Killing Machines or something like that? I heard there's a Bruce Red Death among them who uses the Speed Force; could this guy be his current opponent?
Reverse-Flash wanted a fight; he needed to vent his emotions. Ideally, it would be against that speedster, Bruce. In past loops, he had killed Wonder Queen Diana and Ocean Master Arthur more than once, but each time he had only made things worse.
He desperately needs a combat opponent who poses no threat.
But no one around him responded.
Where are you?
Reverse Lightning roared.
He climbed over a small hill that had been almost flattened by artillery fire, passed several American corpses lying haphazardly on the ground, and then stood on the hillside, looking down in astonishment at the Atlantean and Amazonian forces fighting below, as if frozen in amber.
"Time stops," he said.
"Temporary." Immediately afterward, Reverse Flash heard a voice behind him. He turned around and saw a strange man in a red cloak but with a black mask standing behind him.
Reverse Flash recognized who the other person was.
"Mo Cun," he said, "when did you actually escape the confinement of the trans-time flow... even before Hal?!"
Reverse-Flash had met Parallax Demon Hal a few times before through the Time Flow, and Mo Cun always followed Hal as a follower, even though he himself possessed great power.
Reverse-Flash never imagined that one day, Mo Cun would bypass the existence of Parallax Mohal and speak directly to him.
He relaxed slightly, the fighting spirit that had just ignited like a cockfighting vanished; this was an ally of the alliance, not someone he needed to attack.
He lowered his hostility, then spoke somewhat listlessly, "It seems you managed to escape the time loop before Hal thanks to the collaboration between Hal and Batman Dragon. Congratulations. Now, what brings you here? Is there anything I can help you with?"
As he spoke, he turned slightly to the side: "If there's anything important, just get straight to the point. I still have many people to save."
Before the other party could say anything, Reverse-Flash added, "I know it seems silly to do this useless work before this world is completely stuck in a timeline reboot, but I'm just playing around, you know? I like doing it this way."
The conversation had been quite casual and ordinary so far, but soon Reverse Lightning was suddenly interrupted by Mo Cun uttering the first words that almost made him fall to the ground.
"Parallax Morhal is lying to you."
"What do you mean?"
Reverse Lightning suddenly turned its head.
Mo Cun had served under Parallax the Demon Hal for much longer than he had, so if he possessed any information, it was very likely that Hal knew about it but refused to tell him.
Mo Cun lowered his head slightly.
"Do you really think that perfect world created by Parallax Morhal can succeed?"
Before Reverse Lightning could say anything, Mo Cun added, "Regardless of whether he can succeed, let's assume his plan will succeed."
Reverse Flash felt his blood run cold. He knew the other person might be lying to him, but his intuition told him that what the other person said was true.
What the other person said was also the reason for his long-standing fear.
Reverse Lightning listened.
He knew he had to keep listening...
You have to listen.
No matter how much you don't want to admit it, no matter how much you hope the other person is lying, no matter how much you wish...
That hope once truly existed.
You took a deep breath.
You hear the other person say in a confident tone:
"Do you know you come from a dark multiverse?"
"A projection of the main universe Flashpoint, but you don't understand. In the perfect world that Hal created, there would be no imperfect things like the Dark Multiverse. Even the main universe Flashpoint, which Hal considers an imperfect event, would be erased."
"If the Flashpoint event in the main universe has disappeared, how could you, as a reflection of the Dark Multiverse, possibly exist? A shadow cannot exist independently on the ground."
"Yes, that's right. The people in the main universe can still live happily even after the Flashpoint event was erased, but what about your universe? Although your universe is a reflection, it has absolutely no connection to the main universe. Nothing in your universe will appear in the brand new universe that Hal creates—because your universe is not a perfect world!"
You don't want to believe these things.
"Your universe will become something that never existed at all... completely disappearing from the multiverse, becoming a complete timeline error."
You felt as if you had fallen into an ice cave.
You hear Mo Cun say to you:
"HAL lied to you. His plan will only lead to the complete annihilation of your universe. So, can I interpret this annihilation as...?"
"Complete death?"
