Chapter 1982 - 441: I'm Big Brother's Disciple
Upon learning that the proxy ruler of the kingdom sought an audience, the Thunder King set aside his current tasks and had the eunuch summon Lin Yifan for an audience.
Lin Yifan did not hesitate and strode into the Thunder King's office—Heart-nurturing Hall.
The Thunder King first exchanged pleasantries with the proxy ruler he hadn't seen in days, before cutting to the chase and asking Lin Yifan the purpose of his visit.
Lin Yifan got straight to the point and stated his request.
Upon learning it was simply to ensure the stability and protection of a certain family, the Thunder King agreed without hesitation.
For him, it was a trivial matter, not worth worrying about.
Lin Yifan knew the Thunder King would agree readily, so he didn't say much and left with the three members of the Jiang Family.
Soon after, the Thunder King issued an imperial decree, granting the Jiang Family a mansion and fertile land so they could have a place to live and land to farm.
Additionally, he granted a letter of admission for little Yuxi to attend the higher educational institute in the Kingdom of Leizhen.
The happiness came too suddenly and was too overwhelming for the Jiang Family to comprehend.
They hadn't expected that Lin Yifan, with a single sentence, had secured their residence, land, and little Yuxi's educational opportunity.
It felt like a dream, somewhat unreal.
"Darling? Am I dreaming?" Jiang Darong asked, incredulous.
Mrs. Jiang immediately pinched Mr. Jiang, who yelped, responding, "Seems it isn't a dream."
"Everything is real, no need to be so astonished," Lin Yifan remarked dispassionately.
"Benefactor, who exactly are you? Why does the Emperor of the Kingdom of Leizhen treat you so generously?" Mr. and Mrs. Jiang grew increasingly curious about Lin Yifan's identity.
"I told you, just a proxy official in the Kingdom of Leizhen, nothing of great importance," Lin Yifan replied.
Perhaps Lin Yifan was right, but it couldn't be exactly as Lin Yifan claimed, of no great consequence.
Because if you were of little consequence, no ruling monarch would treat you so generously.
They decided to privately investigate further since Lin Yifan wouldn't divulge, and they couldn't compel him.
Little Yuxi's eyes were filled with gratitude.
It was big brother who gave them all this, who changed their fate, who saved them, and now, for this life and the next, whatever big brother asks, she would never say "no."
After settling the Jiang Family into their new home, Lin Yifan felt the urge to leave.
However, just as he was about to depart, an unexpected guest arrived.
"Brother Lin! Brother Lin! It's been so long!"
Lei Ming, like someone greeting a beloved, endearingly and eagerly rushed in from the doorway.
Behind him, there were guards of the Kingdom of Leizhen.
This person was dressed distinctly and had guards for protection, clearly not of low status, making the Jiang Family curious about his identity.
"I returned less than an hour ago, and you already knew; your intelligence is quite efficient." Lin Yifan sat down helplessly, quite annoyed by this bothersome follower.
"Indeed, indeed, the entire Imperial Palace is filled with my informants; as soon as Brother Lin returns, he can't escape my detection," Lei Ming boasted proudly.
"Enough, enough, what's there to brag about? If your father, the Emperor, finds out, he'll surely reprimand you."
Planting informants in the Imperial Palace is a major taboo, regardless of one's status; once discovered, one would face certain punishment, as it poses a threat to the Emperor's safety.
"I only dare to share this with Brother Lin, I won't tell anyone else," Lei Ming responded.
"Aren't you afraid I'll report you?"
"Brother Lin treats me like a brother and certainly won't betray me." Lei Ming answered confidently.
Lin Yifan truly didn't want to report, simply because he didn't care to handle the Palace's affairs, not out of deep brotherly affection.
After a few moments of silence, he got to the point, asking, "What brings you here?"
"Nothing much, I just missed Brother Lin, so I came to see you." Lei Ming replied.
"You've seen me now, you can leave."
Lin Yifan unceremoniously issued an order to leave, startling the nearby Jiang Family; as they already knew Lei Ming's identity.
The only person who can openly refer to the Thunder King as his father in the Kingdom of Leizhen would be a Prince of the Kingdom of Leizhen.
The benefactor dare speak to a prince of a kingdom like this, his status must be significant. Considering everything they received without any cost, this fact is even more apparent.
Lin Yifan's tone was somewhat harsh, but Lei Ming didn't mind; instead, he acted coyly, "Don't rush me away, it's taken great effort to see you once."
"Go away!"
Lin Yifan sharply reprimanded.
Lei Ming instantly became compliant: "Brother Lin, you haven't introduced who these three individuals are yet."
"The Jiang Family," Lin Yifan replied, then introduced Lei Ming to the Jiang Family: "The Third Prince of the Kingdom of Leizhen, Lei Ming."
The Jiang Family immediately paid their respects: "Greetings, Third Prince."
On someone's territory, you must respect their prince to live peacefully.
Lei Ming immediately asked them to rise, then inquired to Lin Yifan: "Are they your family?"
"Have you ever heard of a family where the two male members have different surnames?"
"Well..." Lei Ming wanted to say yes, but after getting a look from Lin Yifan, he quickly yielded: "No, I haven't heard of it."
Having witnessed Lin Yifan's strength, Lei Ming dared not offend him; and this time he indeed had a request, hence he eagerly came to see Lin Yifan.
For a national prince to fear an official like this, the Jiang Family felt the relationship between them was unusual, not like the typical relationship between a superior and a subordinate.
"So who are they?" Lei Ming continued to ask.
"A family I rescued from a small town," Lin Yifan replied.
"Brother Lin does charity work, bringing people to the Kingdom of Leizhen; it's truly impressive." Lei Ming mocked, not believing Lin Yifan's explanation.
If it were just a rescue, Lin Yifan would never bring those he saved to Leizhen, let alone arrange accommodation for them; it's common for people to prefer peace over trouble.
"Why? Is it unacceptable?" Lin Yifan responded somewhat resentfully and angrily.
"Of course it is, the gates of the Kingdom of Leizhen are always open for you," Lei Ming flattered, his face ingratiating.
This made Lin Yifan feel slightly better.
As the atmosphere grew awkward, Lei Ming swiftly shifted his gaze to a cute, elf-like, and clever little girl.
This individual was particularly lively, seemingly extraordinary, making him curious to inquire, "Brother Lin, who is this little girl?"
"She is..."
Lin Yifan was about to introduce her, but little Yuxi interrupted him: "I am big brother's apprentice."
"Apprentice? Brother Lin actually accepted an apprentice, when did this happen? Why didn't you inform me, so I could join as well?" Lei Ming expressed surprise repeatedly.
