Chapter 39, Ning's Uncle and Aunt
Chapter 39, Ning's Uncle and Aunt
The two of them picked up Duoduo without any problems. After discussing it, Lu Ran and Cheng Ning decided to go to the supermarket to buy groceries on the way.
Lu Ran parked his car in a temporary parking space on the street outside the supermarket.
The original plan was to take Cheng Ning and Duo Duo to the supermarket to buy groceries.
However, Cheng Ning could tell from Duo Duo's reaction that Duo Duo was probably hungry, so she decided to stay where she was and feed Duo Duo some dog food while Lu Ran went to the supermarket.
Lu Ran nodded in agreement: "Then wait here for me for a few minutes. Don't worry, I'll be back soon."
Cheng Ning replied softly, "Okay."
Lu Ran then turned and entered the supermarket. Shopping for groceries with Cheng Ning and Duo Duo might take half an hour.
He could finish it in ten minutes by himself at most.
"Duoduo, have something to eat first to fill your stomach. I'll make you something delicious when we get back."
Cheng Ning took out a small bag of dog food, tore open the packaging, put it in her hand, squatted down, and patted Duo Duo's head.
After being petted by its owner, Duoduo quietly lowered its head and ate.
"Xiao Ning?"
"You must be Xiao Ning!"
A voice sounded beside Cheng Ning; it sounded somewhat familiar. Cheng Ning asked, "Who are you?"
A middle-aged couple was passing by the supermarket when the middle-aged man saw Cheng Ning and stopped to call out to her.
When Cheng Ning looked up, the middle-aged man realized he hadn't mistaken her for someone else.
"I am your uncle."
The man's name was Wu Qiang, and he was Cheng Ning's mother's older brother, making him Cheng Ning's uncle.
Cheng Ningxin stood up happily.
She asked happily, "Uncle, when did you arrive in Chengjiang?"
Wu Qiang smiled and said, "I came here yesterday. There's a construction site here that's starting work, so I'm here to work for a while."
"I'm staying at a nearby hotel. I came out for a stroll with your aunt, and I never expected to run into you here."
Cheng Ning then realized that her uncle was not alone.
He then politely said, "Auntie is here too. Hello, Auntie."
Zheng Shurong pursed her lips and gave a nonchalant reply.
Cheng Ning felt a little embarrassed. She knew her aunt didn't like her, so she didn't say anything more.
Wu Qiang coughed and said, "Cough cough, Xiao Ning, are you out shopping?"
Cheng Ning nodded: "Okay, I'll go back in a bit."
Wu Qiang glanced at Cheng Ning and her guide dog, then hesitated and said, "Where do you live? How about I take you home? My car is parked over there."
Before Cheng Ning could answer, Zheng Shurong patted her husband unhappily.
"You know I don't like cats and dogs. The car will be covered in dog hair, it'll be filthy."
Wu Qiang's face turned ugly: "What are you saying? Xiao Ning is my niece, and she's a guide dog."
"Hmph, I don't care what kind of dog it is, it just won't work. You treat her like a niece, but she might not care about you as her uncle. Have you forgotten what her mother said to me back then?"
"You were the one who brought up Cheng Qi first, and you still have the nerve to blame Meimei."
"I don't care. I paid half the price for the car. If I say I won't let you pass, then I won't."
"You..."
Wu Qiang looked troubled. His niece was right there beside him, and his wife couldn't even control her tongue. It was infuriating.
Cheng Ning shook her head and said, "Thank you, Uncle, but there's no need to trouble yourself."
Wu Qiang pursed his lips and said, "If you have time, go to Uncle Huantong's house. Your maternal grandfather hasn't seen you for many years."
"Alright, are you going to keep shopping or not? You've been talking non-stop."
Wu Qiang was angry but helpless, so he could only explain to Cheng Ning, "Don't take it to heart, your aunt just has a foul mouth..."
"Wu Qiang, what do you mean by that? What do you mean I have a foul mouth?"
"Okay, okay, I misspoke."
Cheng Ning stood timidly to one side, her fingers clenched, feeling very sad. She remembered how very kind her uncle had been to her when she was little.
When she was little, her uncle was her favorite uncle.
She still loves her uncle, but she can never go back to how things were before.
"Cheng Ning, I'm all better now."
Lu Ran walked out of the supermarket carrying several bags of things.
He came to Cheng Ning's side and said with a smile, "We're making crayfish today. I recently learned a new recipe, so you can try it and see how it tastes."
Seeing a handsome young man appear beside Cheng Ning, Wu Qiang asked curiously, "Xiao Ning, who is this?"
"Uncle, his name is Lu Ran, he's my friend."
Lu Ran then pretended to notice the two of them.
"Oh, this is your uncle. I thought you had accidentally offended someone on the street and they were asking you for money. I could hear people nagging from far away."
Wu Qiang's face became even more embarrassed, and for a moment he didn't know how to respond.
Cheng Ning secretly tugged at Lu Ran, signaling him not to act impulsively.
"Young man, what do you mean by that?"
Zheng Shurong could easily hear the veiled sarcasm in Lu Ran's eyes, and immediately asked with dissatisfaction.
Lu Ran smiled and said, "I'm sorry, I misunderstood."
After saying that, he ignored the two of them and pulled Cheng Ning toward the parking lot by the roadside.
Taking out the keys and opening the car door, Lu Ran patted Duo Duo's head and said, "Duo Duo, our car is spacious, you can jump around in it, but remember, don't bark like a dog, I hate people who bark like dogs the most."
"Lu Ran".
Even though Cheng Ning couldn't see it, she could guess how angry her domineering aunt would be to hear this.
But Lu Ran didn't care whether others were angry or not.
He pushed Cheng Ning to open the passenger door and was about to help her into the car.
Cheng Ning had no choice but to say goodbye to her uncle and aunt: "Uncle and Aunt, I'll be going now."
Wu Qiang was very happy to see that his niece was now living a good life.
He nodded and said, "Okay."
"What's so great about it? Just because you drive a nice car doesn't mean you're all that. You have no manners at all."
Lu Ran ignored her. If she weren't Cheng Ning's elder, he wouldn't have let it go so easily.
He stepped on the gas and sped away, and the world was finally at peace.
In the car.
Cheng Ning didn't blame Lu Ran for what had just happened. Instead, she gently told Lu Ran about how good her uncle had been to her when she was little.
After listening all the way, Lu Ran understood that Cheng Ning's uncle was a decent person, but he was too afraid of his wife and too weak.
"Your uncle is truly pitiful."
Cheng Ning said softly, "Uncle has indeed had a tough time these past few years."
Lu Ran laughed and said, "It's not just not easy, it's practically the epitome of a modern-day good-for-nothing."
"Don't talk about my uncle like that!"
"I don't want to say this about your uncle, but what he did was really unmanly. It's one thing that he didn't dare to stand up for his sister when she was being bullied, but his wife took his money and went out to gamble and squander it. When she came back, she would point her finger at him and call him a good-for-nothing. It's amazing that he could tolerate all that."
Cheng Ning sighed, "My cousin just got married, and my cousin is still in college. There's nothing my uncle can do."
Lu Ran couldn't really comment on this, since everyone has their own standards for doing things.

Lu Ran and Cheng Ning spent a few days in this uneventful way.
Unfortunately, this peaceful state of mind was soon disrupted.
That day, Lu Ran had just finished dinner at Cheng Ning's house and had driven his supercar out to fish for a while when he received a call from Cheng Ning.
Cheng Ning sounded troubled on the phone, clearly indicating that she needed Lu Ran's help with something difficult.
"Lu Ran, can you do me a favor?"
"What kind of help is this? I'd do anything for you, even go through fire and water."
"I need to pick up my aunt and cousin at the high-speed rail station. My cousin came to Chengjiang to visit my aunt and uncle today, and my aunt went to pick her up. But it's lunch break now, and it's not convenient to get a taxi at the high-speed rail station. They've been waiting for a long time."
Lu Ran pursed her lips: "This is harder than climbing a mountain of knives. Let them keep waiting. There will be a bus at the latest by 2 pm."
"Lu Ran, please help me out, my uncle is waiting for them."
"Okay, I'll go."
"Thank you."
After hanging up the phone, looking at the fish he had just caught, he decided to give it to the fishing buddy next to him since it was inconvenient for him to take it with him.
He then drove away in his sports car.
A group of anglers were dumbfounded. Has fishing become this extravagant these days? Driving a supercar to fish.
On the road.
Lu Ran originally planned to go back and get a G-Class, since the supercar couldn't carry two people.
But after thinking about it, he decided to drive his sports car anyway, since he was going to pick her up and whether she could sit down was no longer his concern.
