Chapter 212 Who am I after waking up?
Chapter 212 Who am I after waking up?
Lin Wei returned to a safe house located in the suburbs of Changxiang City.
This is a detached villa with an ordinary exterior, but its interior is filled with high-tech defense and monitoring equipment.
She pushed open the door, casually tossed the packet of Chinese medicine and the bottle of "donkey penis bone marrow" onto the entryway cabinet, and went straight into the bathroom.
Hot water washed over my body, but it couldn't wash away the nausea that emanated from within.
She closed her eyes, and the indescribable fishy, salty, and pungent smell, along with that dark, wrinkled thing, kept churning in her mind, causing her stomach to spasm.
"Wang Minyu!" The name echoed in the bathroom, carrying a deep-seated hatred.
She was fooled.
A top-notch agent, trained in the most rigorous physical and psychological disciplines, was utterly disgusted by a pharmacy owner using such crude methods. It was an insult to her career.
Anger burned within her like flames.
She wanted to rush back, tear off the man's white coat, and force the bottle of "peace of mind powder" down his throat.
But then she thought about it again and stopped.
Her purpose in coming here was to assess the target and gather intelligence. Losing control of one's emotions is a major taboo for an agent.
After taking a shower, Lin Wei, wearing a loose bathrobe, walked towards the living room.
The safe house's air purification system was operating at full capacity, trying to dispel the lingering odor on her.
She sat on the sofa, opened the encrypted tablet she carried with her, and prepared to report today's events, along with Wang Minyu's initial assessment, to Peak Bio.
However, when her fingers touched the screen, an unprecedented feeling of fatigue washed over her like a tsunami.
Her eyelids grew heavy, her mind began to sluggish, and the complex instructions, codes, and assessment reports all became blurry.
She struggled to stay conscious, only to find that deep within her body, a resistance was crumbling.
Those were nerves that had been under constant tension, and after experiencing an extreme combination of physical and psychological stimulation, they finally chose to give up.
"This thing won't put you to sleep. But it can make you... completely relax." Wang Minyu's words echoed in my ears.
"Aren't you afraid to sleep? I'll give you a reason that will force you to sleep."
"Drink it. I guarantee that for the next twelve hours, you won't have any thoughts about missions, vigilance, or counter-surveillance. You'll only be thinking about one thing."
"What's the problem?"
Why is life so difficult?
These words, now sounding less like mockery and more like something out of a fantasy novel, no longer seem sarcastic.
Lin Wei collapsed onto the sofa, her consciousness quickly sinking into darkness.
There were no nightmares, no alarms, and no subconscious premonitions of danger.
There was only a pure, gentle, boundless void.
She fell asleep.
This was the deepest, most restful, and most unguarded sleep she had had in three years.
The next morning, sunlight streamed into the living room through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Lin Wei was awakened by the chirping of birds outside the window.
She opened her eyes, her mind blank for a moment.
This long-lost clarity and relaxation made her momentarily forget where she was.
Every cell in my body was rejoicing, and the long-standing fatigue and soreness were swept away.
She even felt that her body's biological clock was being recalibrated by some force.
However, when she saw the bottle of "Anxin San" and the packet of traditional Chinese medicine on the entryway cabinet, all her calm instantly crumbled.
She flipped off the sofa and rushed over to grab the bottle.
The bottle cap was tightly closed, and the black thing inside was unharmed.
"You didn't drink it?" She checked the packet of Chinese medicine, and the herbs inside were intact.
She neither drank the strange liquid nor took the traditional Chinese medicine.
But she slept more soundly than ever before.
What's the underlying principle? Psychological suggestion? Hypnosis? Or... some kind of "power" beyond her comprehension?
She picked up the encrypted tablet and tried to analyze it, only to find that the previously invincible logic analysis system was now stuck.
For the first time, her thinking had a "BUG".
Lin Wei did not report her experience of the day to Peak Bio.
She decided to go back herself. Not for the mission, but to unravel this mystery.

Renxin Pharmacy.
Wang Minyu is reporting the progress of the pedestrian street renovation to Boss Liu.
"Old Zhang's massage parlor has been demolished. He went to the resort to oversee the preparations for the 'Orthopedics Department' and mentor some apprentices. Su Qing's design plans are complete, with a front shop and back yard, complete with a traditional Chinese medicine clinic, a Western medicine clinic, a medicinal cuisine restaurant, and a physiotherapy and rehabilitation center. I plan to change the name of the medicinal cuisine restaurant to 'Nourishing Hall,' specifically for 'recuperation,'" Wang Minyu said, pointing to the plans.
As Boss Liu looked at the various plans on the blueprints, his hands trembled with excitement.
This doesn't look like a pharmacy; it's more like a small hospital.
"Dr. Wang, your generosity... I, Old Liu, have truly broadened my horizons," Boss Liu exclaimed. "However, with such a large operation, I'm afraid you might not have enough manpower. Guan Shan and Pierre are both at the resort, and Zhao Na and Li Siyuan... although capable, they lack a bit of professionalism."
"I've already made arrangements for manpower," Wang Minyu said, taking a sip of tea.
Just then, the wind chimes at the shop entrance rang.
Lin Wei reappeared.
She was dressed in dark casual clothes today, without makeup, and looked somewhat haggard, but the inquiry and doubt in her eyes were even stronger than yesterday.
"Dr. Wang, let's talk again." She walked directly to Wang Minyu, her tone calm and unwavering, but upon closer listening, one could detect a subtle hint of anxiety.
"Ms. Lin, you're not here to discuss your illness, you're here to have a heart-to-heart talk." Wang Minyu put down his teacup. "My consultation fees are very high. If you're just looking to pry into my secrets, then I'm afraid I can't keep you company."
"I just want to know what you did to me," Lin Wei said in a low voice. "I didn't take the medicine you prescribed, but I slept very well."
"Have you ever considered that this is part of the therapy itself?" Wang Minyu countered. "You come to me, I disgust you, and you're filled with anger. When you return to the safe house and find yourself asleep without taking your medication, that anger at being fooled, and the long-suppressed need for relaxation in your subconscious, are all released in that moment."
"This is called 'emotional overload therapy.' Like a spring, the longer it's suppressed, the higher it bounces back. Aren't you afraid of dying? When you discover that you've been deceived but there's no danger at all, this huge sense of loss will put you in a temporary mental 'paralysis.' That paralysis is the deep sleep you need."
Lin Wei frowned as she listened; she had never heard of this treatment theory before.
This sounds absurd, yet in some ways, it aligns with her own personal experience.
"What exactly is that liquid?" She pointed to the medicine shelf behind Wang Minyu.
"That was just a prop for me. The real 'catalyst' is your pride in your profession and your pursuit of the unknown truth." Wang Minyu studied her closely. "You came to me because of a mission. But you came back for yourself."
He stood up and walked to Lin Wei: "As a high-ranking agent, your brain is your weapon, and your mind is your shield. But now, both your weapon and shield have been disrupted by me using a bottle of... marrow from braised pork bones. You're confused and uneasy now, aren't you?"
Lin Wei did not answer, but her expression said it all.
Wang Minyu's words, like a scalpel, precisely dissected her inner defenses.
"I'll give you two choices." Wang Minyu held up two fingers. "First, you tell me everything about the Summit Creatures, your true purpose for coming here, and all the secrets you know. In return, I promise to cure your real illness, completely rid you of your insomnia, and I will give you a completely new identity so you can stay away from all of this."
"What's the second option?" Lin Wei's Adam's apple bobbed.
"My second option is to pretend you never existed," Wang Minyu's voice deepened. "But the danger you face won't disappear. The Summit Creatures sent you, and they sent others too. Do you really think I didn't know about the 'Scavengers'?"
Lin Wei's body trembled slightly.
Her face turned deathly pale.
She always thought her operation was highly confidential, but she never expected that Wang Minyu even knew about the "cleaners".
"Didn't you come to me to get a biological sample?" Wang Minyu leaned closer to her and said in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Now, I'm giving you a chance. I'll give you a 'sample' to take back and hand in. But you must tell me what Peak Bio wants to do with my sample."
He pulled a tiny test tube from his pocket, containing a few drops of bright red blood.
This is a spare sample he kept during a routine physical examination.
Lin Wei looked at the test tube, then at Wang Minyu, her eyes filled with struggle.
She knew that this man was playing a high-risk game.
But the conditions he offered were a fatal temptation for an agent who was stuck in a quagmire.
"You know we can't betray the organization," Lin Wei finally said in a low voice.
"It's not betrayal." Wang Minyu gently tapped the test tube. "It's a win-win situation."
Just then, a black van silently pulled up outside the store.
The car door opened, and four men dressed in black windbreakers, baseball caps, and sunglasses filed out.
Their steps were synchronized, their breathing calm and focused, unlike that of ordinary tourists. One of them was carrying a silver case.
"Lin Wei, your reinforcements have arrived." Wang Minyu gestured with his chin towards the outside of the shop. "Or rather, your 'cleaners'."
Lin Wei turned around abruptly and her expression changed completely when she saw the four people.
She hadn't expected the "cleaners" to arrive so quickly, and that they were coming for her.
"You knew they would come?" Lin Wei asked through gritted teeth.
"No, I just know that if the bait is enticing enough, the hook should be pulled." Wang Minyu took the stainless steel mug that Boss Liu handed him, took a sip, and said, "Now, they're here. What's your choice?"
Outside, four "cleaners" had already pushed open the door of the pharmacy.
The leader glanced around the store, his gaze finally settling on Lin Wei and Wang Minyu.
He didn't speak, but simply raised his hand to signal to the people behind him.
Wang Minyu sighed softly.
"It seems the choice was made for you."
He put down his teacup and pulled out a handful of gleaming silver needles from under the counter.
"Boss Liu, inform Guan Shan and Pierre that we have guests arriving and to prepare an extra meal."
"Remember, it's an 'extra meal,' not 'takeout delivery.'"
